This Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life fishing guide will teach you everything you need to know about fishing in the game. We’ll show you how to fish, and what kind of fish you can catch with different rods. There’s a lot to cover, so keep reading to find out more!
How to fish in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
To fish in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you just need to obtain a fishing rod and find a body of water to cast your line into.
After you cast, you’ll see a shadow of a fish approach the line. It will eventually bite the line, you’ll hear a sound and an exclamation mark will appear. Use the same button you used to cast your line to reel the fish in. It’s quite simple – unlike certain fishing minigames in other titles!
To get a fishing rod, you just need to buy one from Van, the travelling merchant. It costs 500 gold to purchase, and you can upgrade it later.
There are various places you can catch fish in the game. Here’s a list of all the fishing spots!
Fishing Spot | Location |
Upper River | Near the waterfall and Dig Site. |
Lower River | Between your farm and Vesta. |
Turtle Pond | Near the large turtle near Gustafa and Gordy. |
Goddess Pond | In the forest, near where the Nature Sprites live. |
Ocean | Next to the beach. |
How to upgrade your fishing rod in Story of Seasons
Upgrading your fishing rod in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is quite easy.
You can purchase the Copper Fishing Rod for 1,000g from Van. It becomes available during Summer of Chapter 1. You can unlock better upgrades, including Silver and Golden, the more you play. Bear in mind that better upgrades will be more expensive!
You can also get the Blessed Fishing Rod once you’ve upgraded all the way to gold-tier. This fishing rod can be obtained by bringing Gary any large fish once you’ve unlocked the Golden Fishing Rod, and it will help you catch big fish more easily.

To get the Blade of Legend, visit the beach and keep fishing there using the Blessed rod until you get the Blade of Legend. This is also how you get the Message in a Bottle. There’s no guarantee you’ll find them, so just keep fishing until you do.
To get the Golden Axe, head to the Forest Spring and fish until you eventually reel it in. Each of these items will grant you an achievement/trophy for obtaining them, so you’ll need to unlock them if you want all the achievements in the game!
