Jules Bianchi Accident
The 2014 Japanese Grand Prix occurred on October 5th amid sporadic heavy rainfall brought about by the approaching Typhoon Phanfone and diminishing daylight.
During lap 43 of the race, Bianchi lost control of his car, swerving to the right towards the runoff area outside the Dunlop Curve (turn seven) of the Suzuka Circuit.
His car collided with the back of a tractor crane that was in the process of removing Adrian Sutil’s sauber.
Sutil had previously spun out of control and crashed in the same vicinity a lap prior.
Unfortunately, Bianchi couldn’t reduce his speed adequately to maintain control, even with the double-waved yellow flags cautioning him.
Video footage and photos captured by spectators showed extensive damage to the left side of Bianchi’s Marussia car, with the roll bar completely wrecked as it slid beneath the tractor crane.
The collision was forceful enough to momentarily lift the tractor crane off the ground, causing Sutil’s suspended Sauber to fall back to the track surface.
This incident led to the race being halted, and Lewis Hamilton was declared the victor.
Bianchi was reported to be unconscious, failing to respond to both team radio communications and signals from track marshals.
He received initial medical attention at the crash site and was subsequently transported via ambulance to the circuit’s medical facility.
